Saturday, Commando claims the best friend again, this time to Taiwan for three weeks. When he gets back, i leave for New York for three weeks on the next day. Thats nearly two months :c

Still, it was a really good dinner- time spent with these two are always good. I told them about work, my colleagues, my clients, the writing and the events and stories via friends and day to days, I always feel completely comfortable talking and laughing unrestrainedly with these two. Indri and I ganged up (as always) against BBF who was telling us about army and weekends. I think we make a pretty good team, BBF is defenseless nyahahahahahha.

I like how army/being apart most of the time save for weekends doesn’t strain the relationship between them, how they dont argue, i think they should write a book on How To Make A Relationship Last Through Army. Most of all i like how Indri understands and accepts the deep friendship Fred and I have and doesnt worry about it, how she completely understands when i tell her i see Fred not as a guy guy but more as a brother, not having to worry about misunderstandings.

Feel so appreciative all of a sudden :’)

oh yes, also have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you!!! Received so many emails/tweets going into huge detail on where i should visit, what i should avoid like the plague when im in NY, local hangouts that tourists dont usually go to. THANK YOU!!! Feel extremely touched, would give you a hug through the computer screen if i could ^^ Will list them when im there so anyone else thinking of making a road trip can refer to it too 🙂

Also, done with:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower / Stephen Chbosky.

Finished it on the train back home. I felt as though certain lines were really good, but as a whole the book was slightly disappointing, didn’t live up to the hype. Couldn’t relate to the character in the book, and although i know that shouldnt be a criteria for how good a book is, but still. It seemed to me like it was trying to replicate The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time although it was published first.

Probably because i read Curious Incident first/ was thirteen when i read it and thus was easily impressed by anything deeper than Confessions of a Shopaholic/Twilight.

I did like this bit very, very much though:

There was this one part where the main character, who is an architect, was sitting on a boat with his best friend, who is a newspaper tycoon. And the newspaper tycoon says that the architect is a very cold man. The architect replies that if the boat were sinking, and there was only room in the lifeboat for one person, he would gladly give up his life for the newspaper tycoon. And then he says something like this:

“I would die for you. But I wont live for you.

It’s an excerpt from The Fountainhead, which the protagonist was reading at the point of time. That’s another thing i like about the book- it makes external reference to many literature works, music records and musicals/shows.

Despite that, i do remember feeling a sense of slight disappointment after the novel though. Oh well. Maybe i should watch the movie.

Other memorable quotes i liked:

“we accept the love we think we deserve.”

“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”

“I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won’t tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn’t change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn’t really change the fact that you have what you have.

“Just tell me how to be different in a way that makes sense.”

“It’s like he would take a photograph of Sam, and the photograph would be beautiful. And he would think that the reason the photograph was beautiful was because of how he took it. If I took it, I would know that the only reason it’s beautiful is because of Sam.”

Recommended?: Up to you. some of my friends loved it but some didnt so..

WHAT ELSE I HAVE BEEN UP TO:

1. loading new ebooks into
the ipaddington to entertain myself during the 5 hour layover in hongkong.
2. EVENING GOWN FASHION SHOWS IN THE OFFICE
3. Googling everything to do with New york and spazzing slightly whenever i see the letters N and Y in that very order.
4. Doing my nails in mermaid blue + OPI gold shimmer + blue sequins while watching Big bang theory.. fail.
5. Being harassed by my baby sister to explain bits of literature to her ever since she hijacked my Collins Classics collection instead of studying for her PSLE
6. Being harassed by colleagues to give them make up tutorials.

…Noone believes me when i say i just dump whatever colours i feel like wearing on my eyes and just wing it from there.
